New Facebook and Popup buttons

To make it easier for you to market your Blendapps Chat Rooms we have now added two new features, acctually it is two new buttons…

  • To encourage your users to add the chat room to their Facebook account we now have a button for just that. If a user clicks on the button the Blendapps Chat Facebook Application is installed on their Facebook account and your chat room is added to it. So within seconds your users can chat from Facebook with their Facebook friends and with the members of their Ning network. This is a great way to spread your social network beyond just one site! This button can be found at the Facebook page at chat.blendapps.com.
  • If you do not want to have a chat room on your Ning page you can instead use this button that opens the chat room in a popup. A great way to get your users chatting while still being able to participate in the rest of your Ning site. This button can be found at the Ning page at chat.blendapps.com

Fully Customizable
Both buttons are fully customizable. You can easily change the text, so if you want to use another language than English that can be done without a problem. With some knowledge in design/CSS you can also change the complete look of the buttons if you want.

Blendapps Chat now available on Facebook

We are proud to announce that Blendapps Chat now is available at Facebook. This means that your Blendapps Chat rooms can be used both on Facebook and Ning, and that users on the two sites can chat with each other! Just as before, Blendapps Chat is free, fully integrated and requires no extra registration for your members.

Breaking down the walled gardens and allowing people on different sites to chat with each other is key to expanding your social network beyond a single site. Having the same chat room on several places makes it easy for more people to join, and that is a perfect way to market your Ning Network to new users. With this new Facebook application, you will be able to enter and market your network in the leading social network - as always, in a simple way with zero programming requirements.

To add a Blendapps Chat room to Facebook just login to chat.blendapps.com and click on the “Facebook” link in the dashboard. There you will find a link that, when clicked, will install the Blendapps Chat Facebook Application. From then on, all your friends on Facebook can join the chat room from within Facebook!

In addition to just launching the Facebook App we have also added some new features to Blendapps Chat:

  • Each chat can now be open in a popup (from a link in the lower left of the chat). This allows the users to continue chatting while accessing other parts of your site. As all other Blendapps featurers this is fully configurable. Login to chat.blendapps.com to disable the feature if you do not want it, or to change the text of the link if “Open in popup” doesn’t work for you.
  • In Userplane chats it is now possible to have a video chat with more than one person at a time, which allows for increased interactivity and makes the chat even stickier to your users.

Both of these ideas was suggested by Blendapps users at getsatisfaction. A big thanks to all of you that has taken the time to share your ideas with us there and helped make Blendapps an even better service. Please continue to send us ideas, we are listening!

Announcing Userplane chat for Ning

Blendapps is proud to announce that fully integrated Userplane chat now are available for Ning Networks. Blendapps has provided fully integrated Meebo chat rooms for Ning for some time and in order to offer Ning Network Creators more choice Userplane chat has now been added to Blendapps chat solution. The Userplane chats allow Ning users to create their own chat rooms as well as chatting via audio and video - of course all these options are fully configurable by the Ning Network Creator. Both Userplane and Meebo chats for Ning are completely free to use and just requires including a code snippet on a Ning page, there is no need to upload any files or handle any code. All settings are easily handled via the Blendapps chat dashboard.

To integrate Userplane or Meebo chats with a Ning network just login to chat.blendapps.com and get started!

Chat for Ning beta now open

After a couple of months of testing on a closed beta we are now ready to accept all comers in our beta program for the Chat for Ning. If you are interested in having an integrated chat with your Ning network, please do not hesitate to sign up and start testing it. All you need is a Google username (for example your GMail address) and then you are ready to go. The Blendapps Chat Module is built on Google App Engine and is using Meebo Chat Rooms.

During the beta we will continously work on improving the service, as well as working on integrating more chat providers (to fit all tastes and needs). If you have any questions or ideas please dont hesitate to contact us directly or via our getsatisfaction customer support page.

And one more thing - it’s of course all free to use both during and after the beta.
